Rewiring the way companies and their employees work remotely

Overlap is a productivity platform designed for remote startups, helping teams collaborate across different schedules and time zones. It introduces “overlap hours” to show when teammates are available at the same time and includes a “Catch-up” feature that summarizes missed meetings.


Beyond productivity, Overlap supports team connection. Randomized “Hangouts” encourage spontaneous interactions, while “Rooms” offer shared spaces for real-time collaboration with tools like whiteboards.

THE PROBLEM →

Hybrid and remote work bring flexibility, but also miscommunication, lost progress, and weaker team connections

Miscommunication across distances. Hybrid and remote teams struggle to communicate effectively across time zones, leading to misalignment, missed context, and slower decision-making.


Lost visibility on progress. Without shared physical spaces, tracking project milestones and deadlines becomes fragmented—leaving teams uncertain about where work stands and what needs attention.


Erosion of team connection. Remote work strips away the spontaneous interactions that build trust and spark creativity, making it harder for teams to bond and collaborate meaningfully.

Offering a compelling incentive to choose our solution instead of existing models

In a remote or hybrid work setting, companies typically use existing solutions such as Teams, Slack, and Zoom. In order for us to stand out and create a product that sympathizes with our target audience and addresses their needs, my team and I recognized the need to develop a set of features designed to optimize the operations of remote companies.


With the combination of AI implementation, saved workspaces, and features to embrace team morale and productivity within a remote setting, our solution stood out to the judges as we earned 2nd place out of 50 teams!

OVERLAP

Improving communication strategies in the hybrid and remote work landscape.

Meet scheduling features a function that tells you when your availability overlaps with your co-workers, making it quick and simple to schedule a meeting.

Hangouts allow employees from other departments to connect for an informal opportunity to chat about anything, work-related or not.

SOLUTION →

Onboarding that asks what department you are in,

a short introduction about yourself, and a couple of interests you have.


This information will be used when paired with another employee during a Hangouts meeting so that you’re familiar with the person.

To stay up to date, the Catch-up feature uses GenAI to summarize meeting notes, and provides all the information you need to know after a missed meeting.

Rooms contain saved workspaces allow employees to start where they left off or catch up on notes they missed.
